三、阅读理解 (本题有 15 小题,每小题 2 分,共 30 分)
A The Princess and the Frog is a warm and enjoyable cartoon by Disney. It tells the story about a girl, Tiana. She makes her dreams come true through hard work.
Tiana is a waitress. She wants to have a restaurant. She wants to make the dream come true, so she works hard. She knows that it is no use wishing on a star, so she never sits in a castle (城堡)
waiting for a prince (王子)
to come and help her. Tiana’s plan for success changes when she meets a talking frog. The frog is a prince named Naveen. Hoping to become a human again, Naveen thinks Tiana is a princess. He tells her to kiss him.
Then something more special appears. Tiana becomes a frog, too. They look for a way to become humans again.
The story is easy for children to understand, and it shows us beautiful pictures, songs, and music. Also, there’s a great lesson here: you should look for a way to make your dream come true. If there is any problem with the cartoon, it’s only that it doesn’t feel as excellent as some of Disney’s other films.

B Rob Frenette had problems with bullies(欺辱)at school for eleven years. He was often lonely and scared. When he was fifteen, he decided to do something about his problems. He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas of stopping bullying.
After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Katie Neu, he made a website called www.bullyingcanada.ca. Visitors to the website can find information and stories about bullying, in both English and French. When people are sad, they can talk on the phone or online to Rob and his team. Every weekend Rob has to answer e-mails on the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government(政府)
around the country about bullying.
Rob’s most important message is, “When bullies are unkind to you, it isn’t your fault. There’s nothing wrong with you, so you should try to keep believing in yourself. And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people.”
One of Rob’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes and in class they learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools now have “Blue
Day”, but Rob won’t stop until there’s a “Blue Day” in every school in Canada.

Our parents always tell us to eat healthier to grow tall and strong. A new study shows that Chinese people are getting taller. Over the past 100 years, Chinese people have reached new average heights(平均身高). The average height of both Chinese men and women rose by about 10cm.
The Imperial College London of the UK did a study. They compared the average heights of 18-year -olds between 1914 and 2014. In 2014, Chinese men reached an average height of 172cm, up from 161 cm in 1914. And the average height for Chinese women in 2014 was 160 cm, compared to 150 cm one hundred years ago. Chinese people are now comparatively (相对地)taller than people in some other countries. Chinese women are the 87 th
tallest in the world, climbing 47 places. Chinese men are the 93 rd
tallest, Cable News Network(CNN,美国有线电视新闻网络) reported.
Most scientists think that better nutrition (营养)in childhood is the main reason for this height increase(增长), Scientific American reported.
About 60 percent to 80 percent of the difference in height between different people is because of genetic factor(遗传因素). But 20 percent to 40 percent of the difference is because of environmental factors, mainly
nutrition. Having a healthier diet as a child can cause one’s height to increase.
